2025 Highlights

Tales Untapped: A Rotherham Opera

From Sam the Stinky Salmon to Petro Night the librarian, from Pidge our hero to Kevin the Super Bunny, the creative flow of Rotherham was restored!

In 2025 Lucy was commissioned by Royal, Ballet & Opera to co-devise and compose this community opera that premiered in November. With engagement from 2000 young people across Rotherham - primary school children helped create the story and characters, high school music students worked with Lucy and RBO to
co-compose the music, and college students helped design the set and props. 1500 young people sang in the show over 2 days.
Partners included Rotherham Music Services, Grimm & Co and Rotherham Children’s Capital of Culture.

RED! Royal Opera House and on tour across Sussex, UK
RED! was performed with Barefoot Opera across 10 schools in E Sussex (partner Create Music Hub) culminating in a performance in March at the Royal Ballet & Opera Family Day with the Youth Opera Chorus.

Stroma - New Commission

Lucy wrote a new piece in opera this'd be an overture but it's not so it isn't for a 14-piece cross-genre concert featuring Wellington ensembles Stroma and The Jac.

Barefoot Opera - Lucia de Lammermoor

Lucy played bass in the 4-piece Barefoot Band on Barefoot Opera's SE England tour of Donizetti's classic. This tour included a week at London's Grimeborn Festival.

The Seaview Project

With Jenny Miller (Barefoot Opera) & Liane Carroll (UK Jazz Superstar)  Lucy supported and performed with The Seaview Choir at  Seaview's Got Talent and their annual Christmas Show.

The Sun Shall Rise

Lucy composed and performed in The Sun Shall Rise in June 2022. Produced by MSL Projects with lyrics by Rosanna Lowe, this song for community choir with opera soloists and a 3-piece band was performed in partnership with Barefoot Opera and sung (with audience participation of course) on the streets of Hastings, UK. There was a repeat performance in July 2023 as part of the St Leonards Festival.

This is part of The Wild Horn Fair, an ongoing larger project with MSL Projects, exploring creative ways of collaborating and exploring new emerging digital platforms including binaural sound, augmented reality and interactive live and recorded digital and audio performance.

Tête à Tête Festival

Lucy’s new sci-fi comedy opera Module 471 was showcased at TaT Festival in London in August 2022. With a libretto by James Sherwood featuring Sarah Dacey (Soprano) , Peter Wilcock (Baritone), Frank Moon (Electric Guitar) Ric Elsworth (Vibes & Kit) and Lucy on electric bass. Full opera coming soon in 2024 / 2025.

Produced by The Operatists (Sarah Dacey & Lucy Mulgan).

My Place

Bev Lee Harling and Lucy were commissioned in 2020 by Barefoot Opera to write a series of three pieces - setting stories from local community groups in Hastings UK. This was funded by Arts Council England as part of the Emergency Fund during the COVID pandemic.
